The largest publisher in the world is the U.S. Government. There are three branches, 14 executive departments, 94 independent agencies, dozens of advisory & quasi-official organizations and thousands of bureaus & sections. They study, photograph, film or videotape just about everything. By law, their work is free of copyright and can be used for your projects.

Also a part of the Federal Government, but worthy of a mention
all their own are the immense collections of The Library of Congress and
The National Archives.
The Library of Congress holds 13 million prints and photographs as well as 200,000 film titles. In addition, there are hundreds of thousands of drawings, maps, posters and other media available.
The
National Archives has eight million photographs and 150,000 reels of film,
160,000 sound recordings and more than 20,000 video tapes.
There are more association headquarters in Washington than in any place in the world. Every topic imaginable is covered by one of 1,400 organizations. Many maintain up-to-date and historical images of their area of focus.
The world is represented by more than 120 embassies in Washington, many with photo and film resources. For samples from these sources, look at our list of interesting & unusual finds, or browse FREE downloadable visuals.
